Charity Details: Colorado Youth Outdoors
A natural connection between youth and their parents.
Children today spend only 30 minutes per week outdoors, yet they average 44.5 hours per week in front of electronic screens!
The goal of CYO is to create a hands-on, positive environment where students and their parents come to value each other as well as our natural resources and associated recreational activities. CYO is a facilities based program currently offered in two regions - Northern Colorado at Swift Ponds and in Colorado Springs. The program is taught by High School educators who are hired and trained by CYO. Activities include trap shooting, camping, fishing and archery.
We believe that all teenagers are "at-risk" of losing their connection with the most influential and important people in their lives. The impact of this disconnect is far-reaching. The sense of stability and security that a student feels at home impacts their sense of belonging, their self-esteem, and their self-confidence. This in-turn impacts how they respond to life's challenges and opportunities.
CYO is addressing a very real problem with a very simple philosophy: When parents and kids go fishing together, the distractions disappear. And when they hike in the woods, the day-to-day stress and busyness of life is forgotten. CYO gives families the gift of time. Time not only while attending the program but the skills that are helpful to creating a lifestyle of time spent together enjoying our natural resources and their associated activities. Building on the timeless call of the great outdoors, CYO is a fun way to encourage and strengthen families.
Colorado Youth Outdoors was founded 9 years ago and has reached thousands of families along the front range of Colorado and looks forward to the day when we will reach kids and parents across the country. CYO is a 501 (c)3 charitable trust EIN 84-1608608.
